Hans is geboren te Batavia op 21 januari 1923 als zoon van Louise Kessler en de uit Duitsland afkomstige Richard Liesendahl. Als al op jonge leeftijd zijn ouders scheiden (nog voor de jaren '30), verhuist Hans met zijn vader Richard en diens nieuwe echtgenote naar Duitsland. Hans groeit dus op in Duitsland. Voor alle jongeren boven zeventien jaar, werd lidmaatschap van de Hitlerjugend in 1939 verplicht. Dat gold ook voor Hans. Vervolgens komt hij via dienstplicht bij de Luftwaffe terecht. Tot piloot en dus officier, schopt hij het nooit, omdat hij niet voldoet aan het vereiste pure Arische bloed door zijn indische roots. Hans blijft aan de grond. Na de oorlog trouwt Hans de Duits-Vlaamse Jeanne Reill. Dankzij haar Vlaamse achtergrond spreekt ze een beetje Nederlands. Chris Erdtsieck heeft in 2020 contact met de inmiddels 96 jarige Jeanne Reill. Ze weet onderstaande trouwfoto te maken en op te sturen, evenals foto's van haar schoonmoeder Louise Kessler. Hans komt te werken bij een grote Duitse zeepfabrikant.

Hans was born in Batavia on January 21, 1923 as the son of Louise Kessler and Richard Liesendahl from Germany. When his parents divorced at a young age (before the 1930s), Hans moves to Germany with his father Richard and his new wife. Hans grew up in Germany. Membership of the Hitler Youth became compulsory in 1939 for all young people over the age of seventeen. That also applied to Hans. He then ends up with the Luftwaffe through conscription. As a pilot and therefore an officer, he never makes it, because he does not meet the required pure Aryan blood due to his Indian roots. Hans stays on the ground. After the war, Hans marries the German-Flemish Jeanne Reill. Thanks to her Flemish background, she speaks a little Dutch. Chris Erdtsieck will have contact with the now 96-year-old Jeanne Reill in 2020. She knows how to take and send the wedding photo below, as well as photos of her mother-in-law Louise Kessler. Hans comes to work for a large German soap manufacturer.
